Chiropractic is about improving the brain to body communication which happens through your nervous system. When your nervous system is functioning properly, then all cells, tissues and organs of your body function better in their ability to resist disease and maintain well-being. However, physical, chemical, emotional and other stressors of life can disrupt the smooth functioning of the nervous system. Such disruptions can compromise the clear communication between your brain and your body, much like a bad connection on your cell phone. This can show up as a symptom or complaint, and it can also impact the body in ways which we can’t feel. My mission, as a chiropractor, is to reduce these disruptions or interference. Through specific chiropractic adjustments, I aim to enhance the body’s natural healing abilities.
You might hear a “popping” or “cracking” sound when getting adjusted. This sound is caused by the release of gas bubbles in the fluid of your joints when they are moved during the adjustment. Research shows that the popping noise is not actually necessary in order to get the therapeutic effects from an adjustment.
Some patients have extended health care benefits, with their own, or another family member’s employer, which cover chiropractic care. Every insurance company and policy is different; therefore, we recommend that you check your benefit plans and familiarize yourself with their procedures. If you have third party insurance coverage for Chiropractic care we will be happy to provide statements for you, as required, to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
Chiropractors are recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency as health care professionals (practitioners); therefore you may be able to claim your chiropractic care as a tax credit on your income tax return.
At LifeHouse Chiropractic, we’re convinced that a small amount of your time and money to care for your most important asset–your health–will be far less time consuming and expensive than dealing with ill health and disease.
Chiropractic care is safe for most expectant mothers. I will always perform a thorough assessment to make sure chiropractic is indicated and safe for an expectant mother before providing care. I have additional training from the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and am proficient in the Webster Technique. This technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment that reduces interference to the nervous system and balances maternal pelvic muscles and ligaments, which in turn, allows for more room for the baby to move and position itself for delivery. Furthermore, at LifeHouse Chiropractic, we have specially designed tables tailored to accommodate the evolving contours of a pregnant woman’s body, ensuring there’s no undue pressure on the abdomen.
Opting for chiropractic care during pregnancy can provide a number of advantages for both the mother and the baby. Here are some potential benefits:
- Enhanced Pregnancy Health: Chiropractic care can contribute to a more comfortable and healthier pregnancy journey.
- Nausea Management: It can help alleviate or control nausea symptoms, providing relief to expecting mothers.
- Efficient Labor and Delivery: Chiropractic care has been noted to reduce labor and delivery durations, ensuring a smoother birthing process.
- Pain Relief: It can offer relief from discomforts commonly experienced during pregnancy, such as back, neck or joint pain.
- Favorable Fetal Positioning: Chiropractic adjustments can aid in optimizing the baby’s positioning, supporting both delivery and overall development.
- Potential Cesarean Prevention: With improved fetal positioning and pelvic balance, there might be a reduced need for cesarean deliveries.
How long you continue to receive the benefits from chiropractic care is up to you. I will find out what your goals are and will create a plan to help you reach your goals. Many people want to continue to ensure their health is at the most optimal level of function. Chiropractic care allows for better adaptation when it comes to chemical, physical and emotional stress response for optimized health.
For over a hundred years people have been choosing chiropractic as a lifestyle beyond pain relief, because not only do they just feel better, they function better. Only 10% of your nerves carry pain signals. The other 90% control the functions of your body like heart rate, blood pressure, hormone balance digestive processes, immune system, etc. This is why, beyond alleviating discomfort, chiropractic care enhances overall well-being. Benefits reported include a bolstered immune system, increased energy, sharper focus, more restorative sleep, heightened athleticism, and improved capacity to cope with life’s stresses. Now research has discovered that chiropractic adjustments improve your nervous system balance and make you more adaptable physically, mentally and metabolically. Regular chiropractic is proactive as it reduces wear and tear, minimizes spinal and nerve stresses, reduces recurrences of old injuries, prevents new injuries from developing and minimizes degenerative processes, which enhances overall health and wellness.
Yes, chiropractic care is safe for children. Just like in an adult, children have a nervous system of the brain and spinal cord. Adjustments are tailored to be gentle and appropriate for their age and development, helping to address various issues and support healthy growth. Today’s children face numerous stressors, including physical trauma from birth, falls and injuries, chemical stress from medications and diet and emotional stress, all of which can affect the spine and nervous system’s function.
If you’ve undergone back surgery, consulting a chiropractor is highly advisable. As a chiropractor who uses the Gonstead method, I use a thorough and precise approach to analyze and adjust the spine, including full spine x-rays. This way, I can see exactly what areas of the spine are appropriate to adjust and what areas are off limits, and I can accommodate the unique conditions and limitations of post-surgical patients. Remember, it’s important for patients to fully disclose their surgical history and any related medical information to ensure the safest and most effective treatment plan.
The moment a chiropractic adjustment is made, the body experiences instantaneous benefits whether you feel it or not. Stress is alleviated from the nervous system, encompassing body structures, discs, blood vessels, glands, muscles and internal organs. This immediate intervention enhances the nervous system’s capacity to relay messages throughout the body, bolster its resilience against stress and kick-start the healing process.
Some individuals feel improvements with just one adjustment; others might need multiple sessions for weeks or months. There are also instances where a condition might not achieve full resolution.
The number of visits needed depends on many factors including one’s health history, age, lifestyle, mental state and the severity and duration of the issue. Generally, newer injuries respond quicker than long-standing or recurrent issues. Delaying care can extend the recovery time.
I use X-rays as a vital tool to reveal the internal structure and alignment of the spine. Beyond the immediate structural insights, X-rays help identify potential underlying conditions. This includes spinal deterioration, arthritis, abnormal development, bone spurs, disc disorders, tumors and spinal curvatures. Essentially, X-rays provide a comprehensive blueprint.
